Welcome

Jilly Byford Counsellor

Where to start? The practicalities;- I am fully-insured with an enhanced DBS and a BSc (Hons) Degree in Person-Centred Counselling, with over three years face to face and online counselling experience within both the NHS, and the Hospice movement. As well as previously volunteering for Macmillan Cancer Support as a Telephone Buddy.

I am a person-centred counsellor, which put simply means that I’m here to really listen to you – without judgement, without rushing to give advice, and without trying to “fix” you. I believe you are the expert on your own life, even if things feel confusing or overwhelming right now.

My role is to offer a safe, calm space where you can talk things through and be truly heard. Together, we can explore what’s going on for you, at your pace, in your own words. Whether you are feeling stuck, lost, anxious, or just not quite yourself, I’m here to walk alongside you, to enable you to figure out what you need.

After sessions people often say they feel lighter, by just having a space where they don’t have to pretend or hold anything back. I’m warm, open, and down-to-earth – and I take your trust seriously. It is very important to me that you feel safe and respected.

You don’t need to have a clear goal or know exactly what you want from counselling – by turning up is enough to start. If you’re curious about whether I can help you to help yourself, I’d be happy to have a chat and answer any questions.

I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is the most important thing, so it makes sense that we have a full session in order to give both of us a fair try. A discretionary, no commitment 50-minute session may be offered to see if we are compatible.
